I found grace on my kitchen floor
Sooo, I have a pretty embarrassing story to share…
The other day, I reached into the fridge to make one of my favorite snacks: yogurt smothered in blueberries and crumbled ginger cookies.
(If you haven’t tried this, it’s basically the healthy version of cheesecake, and I’m obsessed.)
As I reached for the Costco-sized tub of Fage Greek yogurt, my hand slipped.
The container flipped in the air. The lid flew off. And with one magnificent splat, yogurt exploded across my kitchen. The inside of the fridge. The egg cartons. The milk. The floors. The walls. My shoes. My legs. My hair. My outfit.
Everything was covered. I felt like that pie scene in Mrs Doubtfire.
And since I was home alone—with no kids or husband within earshot—I cursed to high heaven. At first, I was annoyed. Really annoyed. I couldn’t believe I’d been so clumsy.
But then something unexpected happened.I started laughing.Standing there in my yogurt-coated kitchen, I found myself marveling at the sheer absurdity of it all. Every corner of the fridge was somehow covered. Even the undersides of the shelves were caked in yogurt.
Honestly, I don’t think I could have recreated that splatter pattern if I tried.
It was almost impressive.
And suddenly, the little kid in me thought the whole thing was hilarious.
Sure, I had just created twenty extra minutes of cleanup for myself. But there was something freeing about seeing it as a ridiculous comedy scene instead of a personal failure.
And I think there’s a lesson in that.

We all make messes. Some are literal. Some take a lot more time and energy to clean up.
But being human means we’re going to spill things, make mistakes, miss turns, and occasionally getting covered in a Costco-sized container of yogurt.
What if, instead of meeting those moments with criticism, we met them with grace?
What if we talked to ourselves the way we’d talk to someone we love?
So the next time you feel that familiar wave of frustration rising, see if you can find a little grace for yourself, too.You might be surprised by how much lighter everything feels.
PS: The inspiration behind my mermaid Grace was this exact idea: that we don’t have to earn our worth through perfection.
She’s part of the Mermaid Collection, and the prints are now live to the public. If you’re looking for a daily reminder to meet yourself with a little more kindness, she may be the one calling your name.
