Each painting was built through layers of expressive mark-making, oil paint, and gold leaf to create surfaces that shift with light and movement. The paintings are designed to feel immersive—capturing both the stillness and emotional expansiveness of being underwater.
Rediscover Your Magic
As a child, I was drawn to the sense of freedom I felt underwater—the way sounds softened, movement slowed, and the outside world seemed to fall away. Mermaids embodied that feeling of quiet abandon and limitless imagination, floating and dancing unbound by gravity and societal pressures. In this new series, I return to that early sense of wonder, reinterpreting it through the lens of adulthood, motherhood, and creative practice.
Whenever I went to the beach, I made it a point to dive underwater, lay down on the ocean floor, and see the light dancing over the water’s surface. The world felt so quiet and peaceful, like I could do anything. It was one of the only places where my mind could fully settle and allow my imagination to fully take hold. These paintings are my way of revisiting that space—and exploring what it means to find that kind of peaceful sense of wonder again as an adult.
