A not-so-gentle reminder to care for yourself

As the weather is getting colder and I begin to don my 3 rotating house jackets to keep me warm, I feel the deep ancestral urge to slow down and reflect on all the good things around me. Of course, this feels impossible what with the chaos of the holiday season, wrapping up 3 ongoing paintings, and baking 2 dozen cupcakes for my 6 year old’s birthday party – but, I am going to will steal moments to relax as best as I can.

Honestly, if I don’t make the time to focus on my self care, it will NEVER happen. EVER. And when I feel like I abandoned myself in the service of my kids, husband or life in general, I turn into Mommy McBitchington who is in serious need of a nap and a hot meal untouched by toddler spit. The rage in my soul is real – and she needs her damn space – and a delicious gingerbread house to destroy with Godzilla-like intent.

All this to say, please please PAH-LEASE take some time to focus on yourself this season. Steal an hour to pour back into yourself. Get a manicure. Call a friend. Take a walk outside and breath in the fresh air. Touch some grass. Hug a squirrely 4 year old. Eat a chocolate and savor the crap out of it. You absolutely deserve it – and quite frankly everyone else will be better for it.

And if you feel an inkling- nay- a tiny whisper of guilt seeping into your cranium telling you this is selfish or your time is better spent doing something else….

Recognize the guilt….and tell it to f*&# off.

Seriously. You’re absolutely 100% DONE putting yourself last.

Can you tell I’m in a loving mood today? 😆

Speaking of loving ourselves, if you’re hoping to snag a piece of my art in time for Christmas, the absolute last day to order is TOMORROW Friday, December 12th. After that, my elf minions (okay, it’s just me and a lot of coffee) can’t guarantee your artwork will arrive before the big day.

If you’re still searching for that perfect, joy-sparking gift, may I suggest my Floral Crowns collection? These pieces may be small but they make a bold entrance – especially for those who LOVE sunflowers and affirmations. I poured a lot of love—and my crazy beloved chaos—into each one, to remind you to always look toward the light and come home to yourself.

Also, a quick heads-up: I’ll be taking a short studio break for the holidays to recharge, watch Christmas movies with my kiddos, and let my paintbrushes rest their bristles. But don’t worry, I’ll still be sneaking in some studio time (because let’s be real, I LOVE what I do and I can’t help myself).

I’ll be back in full creative force by January, ready to share new work and stories with you.
